The Birds

September 1st – 9th: Early Teal

Early teal season can be unpredictable—birds may be here one day and gone the next. But when conditions line up, expect fast-paced action with big groups of birds working the spread. On slower days, hunting can be more selective, with smaller groups or singles committing to the decoys.

Early October

Big duck season opens the first weekend of October and often brings some of the most exciting action of the year. Expect strong numbers of wood ducks mixed with mallards, teal, and a variety of other species. This time of year can offer fast shooting and memorable mixed-bag hunts.

Late October – Mid November

Around Halloween, we typically begin seeing larger waves of migration move through Southern Wisconsin. This period offers outstanding mixed-bag opportunities, often featuring larger decoy spreads and hunting bigger groups of ducks as fresh birds arrive.

Mid November – Season Close

Late season is all about mallards. As temperatures drop and conditions change, we focus on targeting migrating greenheads while also having opportunities to chase divers for those looking to mix things up. Ice-hole hunting becomes more common this time of year and can provide some of the most rewarding hunts of the season.
